MyAlerts FAQ – Features and User Guide
Just add the places that matter to you. For example, you could identify your home, your child’s school, your elderly parent’s place of residence, the university your older child attends, and your office. When traveling, you can activate the app to monitor your current location in order to receive emergency alerts issued for the city or region you are visiting.
Types of alerts I can choose to receive:
Severe weather alerts
Receive advance warning of inclement weather when you or any of your locations are in the direct path of the storm. AlertSense receives feeds from the National Weather Service, automatically interprets the affected geographic area, and immediately provides targeted alerts to app users when any of their locations are in the impact area. You can customize your alert settings by location, selecting the severity level for which you want to receive notifications. For example, you can choose to receive only the most severe weather warnings or all watches and advisories.
Public safety alerts
Receive emergency alerts from public safety alert authorities, alerting you to situations that threaten your safety or that of those who matter to you. Public safety alerts include events such as crime, active shooter, imminent danger, hazardous materials, forest fires, flooding, and the need for an immediate evacuation.
You can also choose to receive notifications of events in your community which, while not life-threatening emergencies, still impact your daily life and travel, such as road closures and power outages. .
Note: If a location you enter is not currently covered by a public safety agency that uses the AlertSense service, you will receive severe weather warnings but not public safety alerts or community notifications for that location. If your city or county does not currently use the AlertSense service, contact your local public safety organization and let them know that your community would benefit from this service.
